มตกภัตตชาดก ชาดกว่าด้วยสัตว์ไม่ควรฆ่าสัตว์
“เหล่าพราหมณ์เอ๋ย ถ้าสัตว์ทั้งหลายพึงรู้อย่างนี้ว่า ความเกิดมี ของชาติภพนั้น เป็นทุกข์เช่นนี้ สัตว์จึงไม่ควรฆ่าสัตว์ เพราะผู้มีปกติข้าสัตว์ ย่อมได้รับความเศร้าโศก ด้วยต้องเสวยมหันตทุกข์ตลอดกาลนาน เหล่าพราหมณ์เอ๋ย ผู้ทำสัตว์อื่นให้เจริญ ย่อมได้ความเจริญในชาติสมภพ เมื่อเบียดเบียนสัตว์อื่นย่อมได้รับการเบียดเบียนเช่นกัน ดังนี้จึงไม่ควรฆ่าสัตว์อื่น อีกอย่างหนึ่ง ทุกท่านล้วนได้เห็นแล้วว่า แพะนี้เศร้าโศกแล้วเพราะมรณะภัยฉันใด ผู้มีปกติฆ่าสัตว์ ย่อมเศร้าโศกตลอดกาลนานฉันนั้น ดังนี้แล้วไม่ว่าผู้ใดก็ตาม จึงไม่ควรกระทำกรรมคือ ปานาติบาต ไม่ควรฆ่าสัตว์ด้วยเหตุผลดังนี้”
